After a dynamic start to the 2010 furniture season, the imm cologne is heading for next January with a strong wind at its back. Whether at home in Germany or abroad, Cologne is a talking point in many companies right now.
“The current level of bookings looks very promising – we’ve got a lot more exhibitors and space under contract than at the same point in the run-up to the previous event. In some segments, the available space is pretty much sold out,” says Gerald Böse, CEO of Koelnmesse.
All in all, more than 70 percent of the scheduled space has already been booked. All the indicators suggest that the imm cologne 2011 will even surpass the successful 2010 fair. LivingKitchen is showing a similarly pleasing development.

For more than 50 years, the imm cologne has been one of the most important furniture fairs in the world. The upholstery segment is the leading light of the event. As such, it is given high priority by the imm cologne, covering approximately one third of the occupied space. The imm cologne showcases the entire spectrum of upholstered furniture, from starter sofas to premium design products.
No other international show provides such an in-depth and comprehensive overview of the new trends in the international upholstered furniture industry, as well as the accompanying services and marketing concepts. With more than 100,000 visitors and its unique mix of national and international professionals, consumers and other multipliers such as architects and designers, the imm cologne represents an ideal combination of supply and demand.
In the Cologne furniture fair’s biggest sub-section – the “Comfort” segment in Halls 4.1, 5, 6 and 10 – the German upholstered furniture industry is prominently represented. Firms like Himolla, Elastoform, Steinhoff, Koinor, Polipol/Zehdenick, Machalke, Frommholz, Willi Schillig and Ewald Schillig, will be presenting convincing proof of the German upholstered furniture industry’s innovative potency.
A host of new German and international exhibitors and returnees will also be joining the Comfort segment at the imm cologne 2010. Candy, Carina and FM Munzer will be attending the Cologne show for the first time, joined by companies like Hukla, Ponsel, Nordica, Natuzzi, Hjellegjerde, Molinari and Hans Kaufeld, who will be participating in the trade fair again next January.
But upholstered furniture isn’t only on show in the Comfort segment: it plays an important role in the Pure section too. Cor, Cassina, Walter Knoll and De Sede will be showing their innovations in Hall 11 alongside firms like Rolf Benz or Brühl & Sippold.

International experts agree: when it comes to relaxing furniture with majority appeal, Germany’s upholstered furniture manufacturers are important innovators. In terms of ever more sophisticated comfort functions, new upholstery creations like the dinner sofa or environmentally compatible seating ensembles of the kind created by talented designer and EU award-winner Kati Meyer-Brühl, Germany is the benchmark for upholstery producers the world over.

From 19-24 January 2010, trade visitors from all continents will be able to see this innovativeness for themselves at the imm cologne. Sofa manufacturers from Wervik to Singapore will be vying with German manufacturers to make their mark in the Cologne furniture fair’s biggest sub-section, the “Comfort” segment in Halls 5, 6 and 10.

Five months before the next event all indications are pointing to a successful imm cologne 2010. The current registration status looks good despite the difficult situation in the industry. “We are currently assuming that we will again have around 1,000 exhibitors from over 45 countries. It’s time to think ahead, and for me that means stating my commitment to the leading trade fair. Germany needs a strong leading trade fair and that is imm cologne,” says Gerald Böse, CEO of Koelnmesse.
In the coming years imm cologne is set to be Europe’s most cutting-edge furnishings and interior design trade fair. By fulfilling all market-oriented criteria, it is offering optimum prerequisites for business and networking on the international scale. In the modern design area – halls 10, 11 and 3 – visitors will be presented with a show of ideas for global design developments in a compact form. Over 300 companies will have stands there, including such brands as COR, interlübke, Ligne Roset, Walter Knoll, Domaniecki, de Sede, Kettnaker, Fraubrunnen, girsberger, Team 7, Riva, and Gervasoni, all with strong emotional appeal. “We are firmly convinced that in the coming weeks additional registrations will come from renowned companies, particularly from Italy,” says Udo Traeger, Head of the Furniture, Interior Design and Textiles division at Koelnmesse.
