Interlübke publishes opinion poll: German Interiors 2012

“We feel very much at home!” could easily be the title of a recent study conducted by Emnid on behalf of interlübke. Leo Lübke, managing director of the renowned producer of top-quality furniture made in Germany, can certainly feel vindicated as far as his corporate philosophy is concerned – especially when it comes to issues like the living room as the focal point of life, quality, the design and functionality of the company’s furniture or even its distribution system.

The representative opinion survey interlübke commissioned to mark its 75th anniversary – “Germany in private – Germans’ homes and lives in 2012” – revealed that Germans like to live in light, upscale surroundings and – besides their partners – consider brochures and a personal sales consultation at the furniture store the best sources of advice. They also set great store by enduring furniture and are not particularly keen on change.

imm cologne 2012 has been a complete success: 115,000 visitors from 118 countries have come to Cologne

On 22nd January 2012, the imm cologne and LivingInteriors drew to a close in Cologne with a very good result. For seven days, 1,157 companies from 54 countries showed the interior design trends of the coming year. Including estimates for the last day of the show, the trade fair duo lured 115,000 visitors to Cologne. “Cologne is the key business platform for the global furniture economy – as this trade fair has once again impressively demonstrated,” sums up Gerald Böse, CEO of Koelnmesse. “This year we were bang on course. We had more exhibitors, were more international – the Italian contingent was stronger than it had been for a long time – and visitors got to see lots of genuinely new products. All in all, a result like this means we are again playing at the very top of the furniture sector’s premier league,” continues Böse.

With his statement “This year’s furniture fair exceeded our expectations yet again,” Dirk Uwe Klaas, Chief Executive of the Association of the German Furniture Industry (Verband der Deutschen Möbelindustrie), came to a similar conclusion. “With this kind of momentum, 2012 may well be a very good year for furniture- and as far as Germany is concerned, our furniture industry may well become the engine that drives consumption,” adds the Chief Executive.

A total of 115,000 visitors came to the metropolis on the Rhine – 14 percent more than at the last comparable event in 2010, even without LivingKitchen. With foreign visitors accounting for 42 percent (based on the trade visitor days), the imm cologne was once again a very international trade fair. Firstly, there were far more buyers from Europe, especially from the Russian Federation and Italy, and secondly, there was a slight increase in the number of visitors from North America and Asia. The Public Days were also very well attended. Around 40,000 consumers came to seek inspiration from the interior worlds on show. “We see this result as proof that our many and varied activities, aimed not only at national and international trade visitors but at consumers as well, have been successful,” says Katharina C. Hamma, Chief Operating Officer of Koelnmesse. “The imm cologne 2012 has thus established itself as an order-writing and information platform,” continues the COO.

Furnishing Cologne – part 11: New products Bahir by COR and bookless by interlübke

World travellers in Cologne: This year COR is sending a deeply relaxed piece of seating furniture to Cologne from the other side of the Alps: Bahir isn’t just for sitting on, it’s perfect for lounging, sprawling and stretching as well. A place where you can spread out and snuggle up, a freedom zone for slouching and reading, gaming and surfing the net. In order to make all this possible, Swiss designer Jörg Boner created Bahir in the form of a big, inviting shell, abolishing the classic division into seat and backrest. As a result, Bahir is not so much a piece of seating furniture as a private space where you can settle down with cushions, blankets, your partner, some cookies or the kids, depending on how the mood takes you. It’s good to know that the quilted cover can be taken off and cleaned in next to no time. The seams emphasise the clear basic structure of the sofa. The Bahir series also includes an armchair. An ottoman puts the finishing touches to the collection.

With bookless, interlübke transfers the idea of conventional storage concepts into a gallery system for domestic settings. These range from interior designers to architects as well as a critical trade audience from all over the world. Here in Cologne cameras are as important as order books, as tomorrow’s trends are discussed and today’s winning trends are decided. Italy, the design nation with its leading lifestyle brands, is once again present in full force at the imm cologne. More than 60 Italian exhibitors, including top brands such as B&B Italia, Cassina, Poltrona Frau and Capellini, Cierre, Desalto, Driade, Kartell, Living Divani, MDF Italia, Poliform and Porro will present their ranges and innovations at the fair in January. read more…

imm cologne 2011 exceeds all expectations: exhibitors and visitors thrilled with dual trade fair

imm cologne 2011On 23rd January 2011, the imm cologne and LivingKitchen in Cologne drew to a close with an excellent result. Including estimates for the final day of the fair, the dual event drew around 138,000 visitors to Cologne – an increase of 38 percent. “What’s been happening here over the last few days is unbelievable. What trade fair can announce such marked double-digit visitor growth? That’s a great signal for the consumer goods trade fairs in Germany during the course of the year and convincing confirmation that trade fairs are a highly efficient marketing tool,” sums up the trade fair’s visibly satisfied commander-in-chief Gerald Böse. “We have all become part of a success story called imm cologne and LivingKitchen. Cologne is the absolute focal point of the furniture industry again, especially when it comes to the business side of things, as well as home to the international kitchen furniture industry,” adds the CEO of Koelnmesse. Dirk Uwe Klaas, Chief Executive of the Association of the German Furniture Industry (Verband der Deutschen Möbelindustrie), came to a similar conclusion: “It was by far the best furniture fair we’ve had in the last 10 years: more visitors, more contracts signed and an excellent mood. An excellent start to the 2011 furniture year for our national furniture industry and a huge success for Koelnmesse.”

The unique combination of furnishing and kitchen worlds convinced both trade visitors and the general public. The excellent reception the event met with from visitors during the entire week of the fair ensured beaming faces on the manufacturers’ side. 138,000 professional buyers and consumers from 128 countries flocked to the exhibition halls of the imm cologne // LivingKitchen – 38 percent more than attended the previous event (imm cologne 2010). There were significant increases amongst trade visitors, not only from within Germany but above all from abroad, most notably from the Netherlands, France, Italy and Switzerland, as well as Eastern Europe in general and Russia in particular. In addition, more buyers were registered from important export markets like Asia, the Near East and North America. All in all, the trade fair drew increased numbers of visitors from almost all countries. “This result is convincing proof that the diverse activities and high level of commitment we put into attracting national and international visitors were successful and have definitely paid off,” says Gerald Böse.

When the moon rises over the imm cologne …

… Hall 11 comes to life. During the hustle and bustle that reigns on the six days of the imm cologne, you could easily overlook them, these beauties made of wood, metal, plastic, lacquer, leather and textiles. And sometimes the scenographies that give the furniture fair its charm only reveal their true magic when the curious crowds have gone home for the day and the floodlights are turned off.

Then it’s usually only the night watchmen who see what’s happening in the halls of Cologne exhibition centre. The clattering and rustling, creaking and clicking, flashing and flopping that sometimes go on are almost enough to make you believe there must be elves at work. But in fact it’s only the usual suspects who want the furniture and dramatic settings all to themselves: photographers, stylists, designers, filmmakers.

imm cologne set to be the furniture event of 2011

After a dynamic start to the 2010 furniture season, the imm cologne is heading for next January with a strong wind at its back. Whether at home in Germany or abroad, Cologne is a talking point in many companies right now.

“The current level of bookings looks very promising – we’ve got a lot more exhibitors and space under contract than at the same point in the run-up to the previous event. In some segments, the available space is pretty much sold out,” says Gerald Böse, CEO of Koelnmesse.

All in all, more than 70 percent of the scheduled space has already been booked. All the indicators suggest that the imm cologne 2011 will even surpass the successful 2010 fair. LivingKitchen is showing a similarly pleasing development.

imm cologne becomes Europe’s most cutting-edge furnishings and interior design trade fair – Good registration levels for imm cologne

The current registration status looks good despite the difficult situation in the industry. “We are currently assuming that we will again have around 1,000 exhibitors from over 45 countries. It’s time to think ahead, and for me that means stating my commitment to the leading trade fair. Germany needs a strong leading trade fair and that is imm cologne,” says Gerald Böse, CEO of Koelnmesse.

In the coming years imm cologne is set to be Europe’s most cutting-edge furnishings and interior design trade fair. By fulfilling all market-oriented criteria, it is offering optimum prerequisites for business and networking on the international scale. In the modern design area – halls 10, 11 and 3 – visitors will be presented with a show of ideas for global design developments in a compact form. Over 300 companies will have stands there, including such brands as COR, interlübke, Ligne Roset, Walter Knoll, Domaniecki, de Sede, Kettnaker, Fraubrunnen, girsberger, Team 7, Riva, and Gervasoni, all with strong emotional appeal. “We are firmly convinced that in the coming weeks additional registrations will come from renowned companies, particularly from Italy,” says Udo Traeger, Head of the Furniture, Interior Design and Textiles division at Koelnmesse.

2009 to kick off with a strong imm cologne

On 19 January 2009, the Cologne Design Festival opens its doors. Once again imm cologne will feature the very best exhibitors. In 2009, some 1,200 companies from around 60 countries are expected, including market leaders and countless SMEs.
